Due to extreme thermal expansion cycles experienced in our northern environment, numerous areas near weld plate joints in the precast concrete cover system of a large concrete storage tank had spalled and needed repair. PCiRoads surveyed the existing cover, identified repair areas and completed concrete repairs. After concrete repair material had cured new joint sealant material was installed in existing joints. |

The City of St. Paul Department of Public Works awarded a contract to PCiRoads to repair the St. Peter Rondo Tunnel. Prior to the repairs existing cracks in concrete tunnel were allowing ground water to infiltrate and carry in sand from behind the liner causing voids. These voids allowed the concrete liner to break apart when the system pressurized under full flow conditions. The project included large diameter concrete tunnel repairs that required dewatering, reinforced shotcrete liner, cement grouting, crack sealing, steel strap installation, concrete repair. Prior to cement grouting of voids behind the concrete liner all existing cracks were sealed with hydrophobic polyurethane foaming grout. Crack size varied from ¼” to 0.010”. Hydrophobic polyurethane resin grout was used. In two phases of the project more than 29,000LF crack sealing was required. Environmental controls required confined space entry and ventilation. |
